  • Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery is marking 75 years with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for Mar. 27 at 10—11 a.m. at 7900 E. Main St. It was founded in 1951 by Al Coury Sr. and has served Mesa families for three generations.  Mesa Independent

  • Independent Newsmedia added longtime Valley journalist Lee Shappell to its Arizona opinions desk to boost free speech. He will serve as opinions associate (working with coordinator Kelly O’Sullivan) and expand the free Civility Learning Lab platform for community discussion.  Mesa Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Mar. 18 at 10:15 a.m., the City removed the honorary Calle Cesar Chavez street signs and plaque along Broadway Road after allegations emerged regarding Cesar Chavez (coordinated with the Mayor, City Council, and civil rights leaders), and future programs will change to reflect community values.  Mesa Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • A six-year-old boy who nearly drowned as an infant now shares his survival story at local water safety events as temperatures rise. His mother urges parents to learn CPR (a lifesaving skill) while experts stress using pool barriers and constant supervision to prevent drowning.  12 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Scottsdale firm will redevelop the former Fiesta Mall into the $2.5B Palo District featuring a 25,000-seat women’s soccer stadium, hotels, homes, restaurants+ a center for women’s health.
