  • A tennis event was held on Saturday at the Gene Autry Tennis Center to raise funds for toddler Rylee Scroggins' kidney transplant, with participants pledging dollars per shot hit in a timed team rally event. Organizers report about $2,500 raised as the community came together in Mesa.  12 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices are pushing above $4 per gallon across Arizona, and Mesa drivers are feeling the pinch as spring demand and global tensions keep fuel costs rising. Some motorists plan to reduce trips until rates drop — the situation remains uncertain.  12 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • According to the Auditor General, Mesa Public Schools spent 70.8 cents of every dollar on classrooms last school year — down from 71.5 cents — with instruction costing $6,508 per pupil, slightly below the state average, and overall spending dropping by $822.  East Valley Tribune
  • The Arizona Auditor General's report showed that last school year Queen Creek Unified spent $16,355 per student compared to Higley Unified's $12,582 as enrollment rose by 496 students in Queen Creek but fell by 347 at Higley.  East Valley Tribune
