  • Mesa Public Library is gathering Valentine’s Day cards for assisted living residents and will host card-making sessions at its full-service locations. Community members can join in February, and volunteers will deliver created cards in time for Valentine’s Day.  Mesa Independent

  • Mesa residents can still reset their finances this new year using simple steps. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Jan. 26, the Mesa City Council voted unanimously to recommend a new series 9 liquor store license for University Market, a Mesa convenience store and smoke shop located at 1931 W. University Drive (agent Harnoor Singh Sodhi). Approval now rests with the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control.  Mesa Independent
  • Mesa librarian Joni Scofield is seeking $4,000 in damages after her peanut-sniffing service dog Allie was banned from the Dobson Ranch Branch following safety concerns and disciplinary actions that led to her leave for health reasons — the city attorney is reviewing the claim.  The Mesa Tribune
  • State revenue officials updated guidance on current tax forms so that Arizona taxpayers using the standard deduction can file now without needing an amended return (GOP lawmakers will vote Wednesday on aligning the forms with federal requirements).  KJZZ
