- ➤ At a Jan. 8 study session, Mesa Public Schools officials warned that enrollment could drop from 48,700 (in the 2025-26 school year) to under 40,000 by the 2035-36 school year, and they discussed plans to boost enrollment amid a shrinking school-age population. Mesa Independent

- ➤ On Jan. 7, the Mesa Board of Adjustment approved a comprehensive sign plan for Medina Station at the southeast corner of Southern Avenue and Signal Butte Road. The 46-acre site will feature about 302,000 sqft of commercial space + a 148,000 sqft Target store under limited commercial zoning. Mesa Independent
